How hard is it to put braided hose slips on the hoses? I am doing a cosmetic overhaul to the motor and am interested in putting these over the existing hoses.
Very easy - should take you about 5-10min. per hose....
Just loosen the hose at one end & slip the cover on - there should also be a coupling cover to hide the clamp....(looks like a huge nut on the end) :yesnod:
Always wondered why the kits don't come with one to cover the lower radiator hose? Thinking about doing up mine. I see the kits for about half price at discount auto parts stores as compared to retail corvette catalogs. I love seeing parts jacked up in price in these catalogs and think 'What idiot would buy it?'
I know what you mean!! I saw some in some local stores as well for about $20.00. I thought that was a pretty good price. Now I must decide to get chrome, blue, or red coupling. Decisions, decisions......
Only problem I found with the "cheaper" braided hosing is that it goes very dull looking over time. Don't get me wrong, It looks very effective for a while.I had to buy two kits so that I had enough to cover the bottom hose as well. I've just re-done all mine with the proper stuff.......ouch ! Very costly. :seeya. VettePaul
What ya tryin' ta say, punk!, I would be using something wrong? Why I otta... :jester
I guessed they wouldn't look good for long. Did you go for the braided line with hose connectors or the super 'proper one's '
I bought the proper "stainless overbraid" with the pro-clamps at the ends. The hose ends are basically a jubilee clip in a completely round fitting with no gaps in. They look pretty neat. :yesnod:
I like your 'CAUTION FAN' sticker. I wonder what idiot got his/her fingers chopped off and sued GM in order for them to put that sticker there. You know GM didn't do it out of the goodness of their heart.
Nice looking engine bay, maybe I'll take the time to clean mine up when I put the 383 back in.

Re: Braided Hoses (78Vette-SA)
Where do you get the good ones. I have saw the cheaper ones at shows and didnt like the gaps that were visible between braids. Pauls looks good.
   VettPaul: Sorry this is off-topic, but this is a SERIOUS safety warning IF that's a glass, see-thru fuel filter I see in your engine bay picture. If not, disregard with my apologies. If it is, you're looking at a very real fire hazard because the things break as has been discussed in this forum prevously and I've had two different people I know personally who had engine fires...One lost his whole car, the other got away with just losing some of the front end. SOLUTION: NAPA part #3033, clear & plastic. Others make them too. Good luck!
Fevre, I don't use them on my cooling system because I use Evans NPG coolant. Evans coolant allows you to run your cooling system without it being under high pressure. Said differently, my cooling system is not running under high pressure compared to those that use water and anti-freeze. Rod
The cheap kits (Spectre $20.00 jobs) are not Stainless Steel Braid. They are
Nikel Plated Copper Wire. Nikel dulls very quickly and I would give it 2-5 months
before it starts to look like absolute poopie.
Spend more money initialy and get real Stainless Steel overbraid or just use
the real deal.
Real Aeroquip or Earls S.S Braided Hose and AN Fittings are not cheap but
they will outlast every car ya own and they just look 300% better than the
Faux stuff.
Having gone that route several years ago, I'm not much of a fan anymore. While they look great....they're expensive....which isn't the big problem....The big problem is once you cut yourself on those damn sharp edges...several times....you'll be anxious to get rid of them. Theoretically, that isn't supposed to happen, but I always seemed to find that one little burr as my hand was moving rapidly near the hoses. Ouch...ouch....ouch.!!!!
Sorry this is off-topic, but this is a SERIOUS safety warning IF that's a glass, see-thru fuel filter I see in your engine bay picture.
Thanks for the tip Andy. I've never heard of them breaking before but I'll take your word for it. You got me panicking now
  . I'll get it changed at the first opportunity.  VettePaul.
