Hello, I'm still getting Parts for my yet to happen 69 project. Its got a hand layed upper suround wich would fail the NCRS in a heartbeat. I understand that the 68-69's have a suport brace of there own. I have the option of buying one with a Part Number of 3977889 and the support 3938095. The support is hand Layed Glass and installed. I'm going to say the Support is wrong for a 69 and the Suround may be right its Dark Grey in color. Is the support avalable in reproduction? Thanx...

I think you have gotten no response, because we dont know what the heck you are wanting to say. SUPPORT? What support? Radiator support? No radiator supports are hand laid glass, so I must assume you mean the header bar. They were always steel, so I would assume that any surround with a fiberglass header bar, would also be a reproduction. There have been many made in reproduction with fiberglass bars.
The differences in the bars are minor. An original 68 and early 69 would not have had the brace out on the end attached to the inner-fender, thus no threaded attachment for that. They would have also have been riveted to a bonding strip and bonded to the surround. Later cars and replacement bars would have had the provision for the brace. Later cars and over the counter surrounds and most reproductions, the bar itself is bonded without a bonding strip.

Ok Header Bar, I'm refering to the Bar or Suport on the underside of the suround by the Headlights. I think we are on the same page. The one that 68-69's would develope Dimples in the Headlight area after a Decade or Two. Sounds like the one I'm looking at is a Reproduction, If I remember right the Dimples were from the Header Bar Rusting and pulling the Rivets down.
You've lost me. Surround panels are press molded fiberglass. The headlight support and nose support bars are stamped steel.
The reinforcing rod is steel.
If you purchase a replacement surround panel, it should have the headlight support and nose bar already in it. If you are concerned with future judging, do not purchase hand laid fiberglass.
