Default EGR help

I've got an '81, 350/auto that I'm trying to get to pass this #$%&^%@! California smog crap and have been through much hassle and replaced several parts. The guy at the shop told me that the EGR needed replaacing so I got one and went to do it. When I removed the air filter I found that the EGR vacuum hose was hanging loose. There is no apparent place to connect it. Could someone give me a hint as to where it connects? I have looked all over within the reach of that hose and there are no vacuum connections. Also, just behind the EGR are two stacked "switches" (?). What are these for? The rear connection on the bottom one appears to be sheared off. I'm really getting fed up with this POS and am about ready to burn the thing. I could really use some assistance here. Thanks. Jim

Chances are your egr valve is ok..to check it pull up on the inside and put your finger over the vacuum port..if it doesn't fall its ok..while the engine is off btw..those blocks you mention sound like the egr solenoids..if they don't have the hose ends to hook up to then that may be your point of failure..stop by a parts store and see if they got one of those solenoid deals and see if it has the ports that you need..

Thanks, Chromie, I'll look into that. There's so much crap under there that it's hard to figure it all out. Jim
