Backup Light Switch Adjustment

Can't get the backup lights to turn on and off when they're supposed to. New switch didn't help. Seems like the switch position doesn't even change going from reverse to neutral when I marked it. Broke the rod trying to bend it thinking that would change the throw and I've made one out of 12 guage copper. Driving me insane now. Thanks for any help.

Hi k,
4-speed or auto.?
If 4-speed... can you make the b/u lights work when you move the switch's 'lever' by hand?

4 spd. They can turn on and off by hand with the switch. Thanks.
