This topic has been posted quite a few times but now that I need to replace the exhaust system, wanted to bring it up again. A couple of questions... Where is the best location to install the H-Pipe ?
Could someone please post a picture. I would like to print the picture and take it with me to the shop installing the exhaust. Thanks :)
jk, I don't have a picture up on my website yet but I have one at home. I had my headers connected to the exhaust and an H pipe installed just in front of the trans crossmember. I have a stick shift car so there may be more room there to do this. If you have an automatic you may have to install the H afte the crossmember. I had the job done at Kasper's Korner on Rt. 42 just south of the Atlantic City Expressway entrance. They used 2 1/2 inch aluminized pipe and the whole job came to about $180 if I remember correctly. They did nice work and if you'd like to check out their site it's http://www.kasperskorner.com . Good Luck.
Uaually you want the crossover as far forward as possible but for me I didn't want it under the transmission so I put it right behind the transmission crossover. I went to extremes and used a flanged 3 inch pipe but normally you can use one pipe size smaller then the normal pipe and a flange is not necessary.
There is a method to find the optimum spot for the crossover involving a crayon, drawing a line along the exhaust pipe and putting the crossover at the spot where the crayon stops burning off but this might not be a convenient spot. The crossover does tone the exhaust down and add torque.
Thanks for the info guys. That's some setup you got Norval . Inspection for my vette is due in June and that's when I'll get the exhaust installed. My 76 is all stock so I hope the duals will provide a bit more 'excitement' :D even though they will be connected to the stock ramhorns. Headers are on my 'wish list'.
