My cousin is making me a bullet proof 700-r4 that I am going to put into my 1981 corvette.
I have done a search and found that you need the x-member from BowTie Overdrive, a shortened driveshaft, a lock up soloniod and tv cable bracket to fit the carb.
My cousin says I need a different output shaft and tail shaft for this to fit my car but in my searchs there have been no mention of this???
Is my cousin correct?? Am I missing this in my searches??

If I remember correctly the TH 350 and 700 R4 use the same Yoke or output shaft. The Stock X Member can be used if your willing to modifiy the Mount a bit, it dosn't take much.
The output yoke is the same for th350, and 700r4. The drive shaft will need to be shortened about 3", shifter detent modified for the overdrive gear.
I wish you luck. I went through two "bullet proof" 700r4's in a year, then went to my th400. If you think you need bullet proof,.....you might want to consider a different option. My 406 only puts out around 540 horsepower,...which by todays standards isn't a lot of power.
We just installed a 700r4 in a 1975.
The builder put a camaro tail shaft on it and all we had to do was elongate the mounting holes in the original crossmember to bolt it up.
Driveshaft was also shortened.

700R4 transmissions come in several configurations. Some have longer tailshafts/housings than the version that was installed in the ['82 & later] Corvette. Since the output shaft is part of the basic assembly, it and the rear housing will have to be changed to make it work....or, just get one that fits in the first place.

my tail shaft from the th350 worked.....you may want to consider the shift detent , and the B&M speedometer controlled lock up. the B&M speed controlled lock up prevents you from being in 4th gear at too low of an RPM and lugging the engine while in lock up
