Default Cut-pile or nylon loop.

I'm going to put new carpet in my 76 L82.

Eckler's has 15% off this weekend and two options:

Cut-pile or nylon loop.

Which is best?

I'm going back to loop pile because it is what was originally used in 69. It wears really well IMO.
The cut pile that was in the car lost a lot of fibers in the wear area making it look like it was going bald . Could have been the quality of replacement cut pile in the early 80's.

I went with loop because I prefer the retro look and it wears better. Cut pile is more luxurious and looks more upscale but you will want to cover it with some good floor mats.

I was under the impression that loop was for basic interior trim cars, and cut was for optional up level interior trim cars. If a Stingray had the wood look inserts it had cut pile carpet as well.

At least to my understanding that is how it went.

All cars with Standard interior from 1970-1976 used loop carpet and those with deluxe interior used cut pile. While cut pile looks better, the loop is more durable.

We have the carpets on sale to forum members only at this link.

River-

No problem.. Below you will see the factory color chart for the 1972 from ACC's samples.

Loop or as it's called 80/20 carpet only came in cars with standard interior from 1970-1976.

Cut pile was only in cars with deluxe interior from 1970-1976. In 1977 to 1982 all cars had cutpile.

So, if you have leather seat covers and carpet on your door panels you would need cut pile, and if you have vinyl seat covers and no carpet at the bottom of your door panel it would be loop.

Hope this helps..

Willcox

"Pro Choice Brand 220.00 includes a heat barrier."

What do you recommend for a sound barrier?

I'd like both.

Ok.. what I did was move the deadener from the retail side to the forum special section. The price shown on this is the price you would pay but compared to the 256.00 retail price its a steal and the same stuff we install here in our own shop.

Thanks Willcox.

trying to determine if deadener is going to help my noise problem enough to be worth it. I'm getting mixed opinions.

Having gone thru installing new carpet in my 74 coupe, I would go with the thin, adhesive backed tiles for sound and heat on the floor and in the back. Use the 1/4" foil-backed stuff for the sides of the tunnel. Otherwise it bulks out the carpet too much especially where the jute padding is applied on the fronts. OR: get the carpet without the jute applied and go with 1/4" foil backed foam. If your are going to get in your doors the tile stuff is good against the outside door shells to help deaden sound. Works wonders actually, but is expensive - why, because it works. Also keep in mind that any padding under the gas pedal restricts the linkage travel!
