noisy speedo cable

i just bought a c3, 79 corvette. it is on the way to my house this week. the previous owner tells me the speedo cable needs to be lubricated. i am nothing close to being a mechanic, is this something easy to do that i could do myself or should i just get it done in a workshop by someone.

its a tight spot up behind there but you can reach the round connector on the back. get it undone and grease the spline on the end. stick it back on and see how it goes.

If it has cruise control you have two cables. One from the transmission to the transducer, and one from the transducer to the speedo. It's all pretty easy access, but you might want to use a light oil that will run down inside the cable.
Make sure it's not the transducer making the noise.
