Can anyone tell me how to disconect the brake pedal rod from the brake booster so I can remove the booster and master clyinder and replace it with a new chrome booster/mc conbo. The four nuts holding the booster to the firewall is bad enough but I can't see where the pedal rod is connected. I do see an inspection plate in the wiper area but have not removed it yet. That might give me a view of the rod. Thanks for any help.
The pedal rod should go through the firewall and attach directly to the brake pedal. There should be a clip that attaches a rod though the brake pedal to the U or C shaped bracket at the end of the brake booster assembly.
When you are looking at the nuts that secure the brake booster to the firewall you should see the rod between the 4 bolts that attaches to the brake pedal.
Once you take this clip off, and the short rod out, the rod from the brake booster will be pulled out with the brake booster assembly.
I have three of the four bolts out and left the last one on until I find the clip. I see the rod and can feel the u shaped part on the end of the rod but I can't see of feel any type of clip or any protrusions that might be used to hold the rod to the pedal. Does anyone have a picture of this clip so I know what Im looking for. The new booster only has a threaded rod with a nut coming out of the booster. Does this rod screw into the brake pedal rod when I get it out.
Here is a shot of the rod attached to the brake pedal.
Almost in the center of the photo you can see the clip that holds the pin that connects the u shaped bracket to the brake pedal.
Thanks Ken, A picture is worth a thousand words. That helped a lot. I found the clip easily after seeing it in the picture. I've got the booster off. Now a little cleanup of the engine bay and we'll pop the new chrome booster and master clyinder in for a little bling.
I have a '72/early shark and so I got tired of fighting the silliness of the factory dash install, and rewired the harness years ago, I put a plug on the lighting wires...quick disconnect from the harness....the tach is electronic from a '75-77 now, and the speedo is a simple disconnect since the cable no longer goes through the engine compartment....but under the carpet/insulation through a hole in the floorboard to the tranny directly.....
I can have total access to the entire area behind the entire instrument cluster in about 15 minits time....reassemble in about 30 minits....
