Default Heat Riser Question

Finally finishing the insall of a new CC dual exhaust on my 7 L48 auto. The AIM seems to show the heat riser mounting with it's flat side up with no gasket between the heat riser valve and the exhaust manifold. The exhaust then bolts up to the tapered seat side of the heat riser. Is this correct, no seal between the heat riser and the manifold?

Yes Sir; I have a gasket between mine, but maybe they didn't put one in back then. I have never tried it without, to much trouble to change if it leaked. Have a nice one. Gene

Corvette Central has this picture of the heat riser with the gasket.

If you have a heat riser and not a spacer/eliminator then:
Exhaust Header, Three Hole Gasket, Heat Riser and Exaust Pipe.

I've had the front crossover pipes off both of my 79s and my 78SA over the last few years to replace oil pan gaskets. No gaskets on the heatrisers.

BUT, gaskets are offered for a few things that didn't originally have gaskets.....
exhaust manifolds
cat convertors
heatrisers

Nothing wrong with using them. I could use them on my cat convertors

edit....check out the diagram in the CC link above.
up to 74 used a gasket, 75-79 didn't.

You will be happier if you put a gasket between the manifold and the heat riser.
