It is legal here to remove the catalyst from my 1982,and make it a dual system.
Do I win any HP by just removing the catalyst, and how much will a dual system give me? (all using the stock headers,I will put on better ones in the future, but there are more important things to do with my money at the moment...... :( )

If you are still running the factory cat from 1982, yes, you will gain a noticable amount of power. The old cats from the early 80's were quite restricitve. New cats (late 80's and up) usually don't rob any noticable power. I've seen tests were newer cats only cost 2-4 hp on a 500 hp motor!

The inspecyion here is a joke. Just measuring CO values and if it's below 5% it's okay.
Pete, I ran a full 2&3/4"true dual system w/ borla's, no cats & full length headers. Never had a problem passing emissions.. remove the cat. It WILL sound a little like a tin can.

When my '82 was "stock", the first thing I did was add tubular headers a true dual exhaust, without convertors. Honestly, I didn't notice any change. I didn't start seeing noticeable improvements in power to I reworked and opened up the manifold. With half the area of your intake runner blocked by the Crossfire manifold you're chasing your tail, in my opinion. In the case of the Crossfire motor, I'd start on the intake side first.

Pete,
Monty is right.. the intake is really really restrictive. I have a lot of goodies lying around. You're always welcome to come & sniff around in the parts bin.
Re: Removing Catalyst from a 1982,do I win HP? (Twinnie)
You can expect me one of these days Marck, but I'm waiting on next months pay check......
But serious,I'm busy changing the basics now,(tires, filters, plugs, you name it) and after that I sure come over to your place,if only to see your engine!

PeteZ, you need to take Twinnie up on that offer, he knows the Crossfire just about as good as anyone. He probably has all sorts of go fast parts laying around in his junk bin! :D If anyone in the Netherlands can put some zoom in your Crossfire, Twinnie can.
