Default New U-Joints not fitting

I am replacing my drive shaft U-joints with new Spice 785's No problem with the rear diff yoke, but I can't get the caps to seat all the way into the saddle of the transmission yoke. The caps are seated as best I can tell. Any idea what this could be? I may just flip the drive shaft around to see if I can get it to seat that way, just as a test. I want to the shaft in the same position as I took it out. This is on a 69 4spd

Thanks

Are they the correct ujoint? they are different from 4spd to auto. are you talking a big gap or are they just hitting a burr or nick? maybe take some sand paper and clean up the tranny yoke.

Sometimes the U joints fit only one way. If you replace a sealed U joint with a greasable one, the bump on the body of the U joint where the grease fitting screws into can hit the middle of one of the yokes. It will create a driveline vibration that you would not believe. I found out the hard way. I had to put the car back on the jackstands and R&R the driveshaft and U joint all over again.
No matter how much of a hurry you are at first, you can always find time to do the job all over again!
