Hood Insulator (Need Or Not)

Thanks for the compliment.
After I took off the ratty insulation and plastic tabs, I sanded the underside completely smooth, then took it to a body shop and had them paint it. They used regular automobile paint with 2 coats of clear.($125). I then had a person who can paint flames apply his talents. At first I was going with the regular flames (yellow, red & white) but decided to go with the blue to better match the silver and to be just a little understated.

What type of cement??? I know I would use trim cement, but I really wouldn't want anyone else to try it. I used it on the rubber around the edge of hood, no problems yet. The cement they used originally was holding very well, when I cleaned it off it was tough. Gene

Hood Insulation on 1969??
Vendors sell hood insulators for all the C3 years. But, 68-72 cars DID NOT have it as built by the factory. If you don't believe it, check your AIM. But, I think they are a pretty good idea. I don't have one, as I want to keep mine 'original'. But, if that were not an 'issue' for me, I would install one immediately.
I am confused about the hood insulation!! I am looking at the 1969 Assembly Manual and on Page J267 (11-13 A9) it shows the hood with full insulation part # 3945254 with 8 retainers (#3958883) and tape(#3839835) along the front approximately 31 inches long..
I thought the insulation was to protect the Hood Paint from the Engine Heat!

2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
This idea of damaging paint is brought up every time someone asks about hood insulation. The answer is always the same, it was for sound, not paint. For those who believe paint can be damaged, please answer why there are many years of the C3 Corvette that did not come with insulation....so why aren't those cars damaged by heat? Now, headers may be a different story.

Sound abatement. If underhood temperatures ever rise to the point of being hot enough to burn exterior paint, you've got a problem way beyond insulation.

me too
I have ran my 76 with no insulation for two year and had no problem. Today I at a car show for hours . I shut the Hood walked around the car and when I looked at the hood I noticed there was a line directly above the ignition shield. the line looks like burnt paint. is this similar to what happened to you guys
