Like many, my side mirrors are a mess. I want to tighten them up, but it needs a extra gasket or two. LOL
Can I buy or does anyone make a proper gasket to set my mirror into?
Is the mirror (body) actually moving from the mounting on the door; or is the mirror head just not maintaining its position?
You can buy mirror (plastic) gaskets from most of the aftermarket vendors. Looseness of the head is corrected by removing the mirror glass (soak mirror head in gasoline or mineral spirits overnight), making some thin metal shims [shaped like a small "U"], then forcing them under the rivet heads to take up the 'slack'. Use RTV silicone to reattach the mirror glass.
If the ball is loose in the socket, get a spring-loaded center punch and use it to dimple the ball all over. Worked like a charm for me, my mirror has been rock solid for over a year. Paid $3.50 for the punch at Harbor Freight
