Vin number
Thought I'd run the Vin number and see what was up.
When I went to run the Vin I got an error message that it needed to be 17 numbers. My Vin is only 13 numbers.
The Vin # is 1z37j58428069
Any help on this?
Ralph
I believe that in 75 the rear ratio code of 2 letters was still stamped on the case along with a production date.
If you can find it, I'll bet that someone here can 'translate' it for you.
Regards,
Alan
1Z = Chevrolet Corvette
37 = Coupe Body (67 would be a convertible)
J = Base L-48 engine (T would be an L-82)
5 = 1975 model year
8 = you need to recheck this, it should be an "S" for the St. Louis assembly plant
4 = is a GM sequence number, that varied by year
28,069 = you have the 28,069, 1975 Corvette built (It was built approximately May 21st, 1975)
In 1975, the standard axle ratio with an L-48 4 speed was 3:36, with 3:08 as an option. With the automatic and an L-48, the standard ratio was the 3:08, and a 2:73 was optional.
There is a 2 letter code stamped on the bottom of the differential housing, just forward of the rear cover. It really can't be seen with the car on the ground, and can even br hard to read on a lift. This code indicates what the axle ratio is. Both "AX" & "LR" were used to identify a 3:36. "AW" is the code for a 3:08, and "AY" is the 2:73.
But it is 3 drive shaft turns to 1 tire rotation almost exactly.
I'll try again tomorrow to find the letters stamped on the housing.
To say the car is sluggish on the take off would be an understatement.
It idles at 40mph in 3rd, well a fast idle anyway.
What would be a good ratio for an automatic?
Looking for an all around ratio, not a 200mph ratio.

Uhh, no it doesn't. No C3 had a tag.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Unfortunately, they are only available for 77 and newer Corvettes, and the original poster has a 75.
It seems that your (Mr. Nasty) responses to his post, have chased 78 C3 Light Corvette Blue off the Forum. He posted earlier today that he has requested to be removed from the Forum. I guess that he doesn't like to be corrected.
He left saying that there are too many babies on the Forum. I guess there is one less now!
