How to please HELP!!
so this is the 3rd time i have tried to start my vette and its started to smoke near the igition. i just bought a new ignition but cant figure out how to get the column off to change it. please let me know if u can help!

Well, were is Lars when you need him! This is just the thing he could help with. You might want to get on Digital Corvette site and look him up.
If your replacing a distributor then get someone who has done one before, maybe a local Vette Club or Chevy Hot Rod Club.
You could Qoogle replacing HEI distributor I think there is a video or two on the subject.

Alright pops..is it a tilt column? If its a non tilt its a fairly easy project..question two..did you buy the key ignition or the ignition switch..the switch is located at the bottom of the column..the key..well I hope you know where that is! Sounds like you have a short or ground issue..does the car start if it smokes??.. and does it smell like burning plastic?? I hate to say get your head down by the pedals and look at the wiring at the ignition switch..look for melted wires..yuck..
