Default Another Ride Height Question (w/ pics)

Looking for some advice. I have a 75 that has had a frame off restoration completed about 8 years and 2,000 miles ago(started by previous owner, finished by me). I am not sure what springs I have in the car, but lately everyone I see comments on my "4 wheel drive vette". I have a 350 with aluminum heads and an aluminum intake, and I do not have a spare tire...so I understand there is a little less weight in the front and rear than original. Take a look at these pictures and let me know what you think. I know I can lower the rear with longer bolts, but am I going to have to cut the springs in the front? I checked, and they are in the pocket correctly.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Were the pictures taken w/ a full or empty gas tank, I only ask because I can see a difference in my rear ride height full or empty there is about an 80 lb. difference.

Hi JG,
That's a GREAT looking car!!!!
I'll ask about the rear spring.... is it the original or a service replacement? If it's a replacement, have the shipping 'bands' been removed?
Can you post a picture of the rear suspension?
Regards,
Alan

You have not stated the size of your tires.

When you say the front springs are aligned in the pocket, which pocket are you referring to, the upper or lower?

I filled the tank, then drove about 30 miles, so I would estimate 3 gallons shy of full.

My '79 is 27 3/4" in the front, and 28" in the rear with the grand touring package from VB&P. That's with a full tank. I can adjust the rear if I want, but it's right where I want it now.

Thanks for the compliment. The painter did a fantastic job. I tried to take a couple of pics of the rear suspension, but they did not turn out very well. I found one before the body was on, if that would help.

I will try to get some from underneath the car in the next day or so. I tried from the floor but they turned out pretty bad.

Didn't the later (Mid-70's) cars use a thicker body mount shim set to get the bumper height up??? seems like I read that in some of my source material?

The bottom...I guess I didn't realize there was a top pocket too. Is it safe to assume that if they are aligned in the bottom, they must be aligned in the top too?

I hadn't heard that. I'll have to research that...

Ptroxx

How much drop did you get total? It looks like yours was an inch or so lower than mine now...and it also looks like its about an inch or so lower than I am looking for now. Your setup might be just what I need.

I had the EXACT same probem. I had what were supposed to be correct springs and had huge wheel gaps. I swapped out VBP springs and the height looks perfect now. Give me a minute I'll find some before and after pictures. This was a direct swap and I did not cut any coils, I think you'll like it.

I have 255-60-15's... and i just went and checked again.. front is about 26 1/4 and the rear is about 28 1/4 -1/2... It seems my rear end has reaised since my last measurement,,, I was 27 1/8- 26 7/8 ..
I had 3
235's before...
I think I went about 2.5in ini the front, nd about 2 in the rear....I dont have my org #ers from when I started, It got tossed in the trash...

I need a little more in the rear.. I may go to a little longer bolt, Like a 9in.. or cut the 10 in down,,,

I could be terribly off (ditched my leafs for a composite spring), but based on these two photos it looks as if the shipping "bands" are still on your leaf pack. This could be part of the reason your rear end is riding as high as it is.
