Default Wiper Door Hinge removal 71 Model

My next porject is to remove the wiper door hinge assy. and detail that section of the car on my 71.

Would also remove the wiper transmission assy while there.

Is removing the hinge assy and wiper assy. a simple job or a can or worms?

All I see is the 2 mounting points at either side of teh fire wall for teh door hinge (4 Nuts) total.

I also need to adjust so that the grill lines up better with the fender gaps.

Thanks
David

I remember it being a pretty straight forward job. There is a little more than the 4 nuts though.
I believe you need to take the limit switch rod apart and detach the actuator too. I'll take a look at my '68 and there may be differences between the years but I seem to remember 6 nuts- a set at each end and another set just off center.
I'll take a look and get back to you.

BTW, keep track of the shims and where they were.

There is another set of nuts just to the drives side of the wiper motor, on the '68 at least.

Hi David,
NICE project.
DZ is right on. The mechanism itself is held in place by those 4 nuts (2 each end).
But the limit switch and the vacuum actuator need to be disconnected too before the wiper door and mechanism can be lifted out.
The connection to the left of the wiper motor although it looks like the other 2 connections (an oval plate and 2 nuts) is actually just a bracket for the wiper bay grill. That bracket and the grill can come off first, and then the mechanism and wiper door.
Be VERY CAREFUL when you unbolt the door from the mechanism. The bolts are quite small and have a machined shoulder which is VERY easy to twist off and a BEAR to repair.
Regards,
Alan

I wasn't exactly correct, I forgot that that was just a bracket.
