I have several older cars that I do my own maintenance and work on. I think that statement applies to many people here.
Currently, I keep a little log book in each car where I write down everything I do to the car. Basically a maintenance log. I think that probably a lot of us do this.
I've seen a few programs and there are a few web based services that allow you to enter all the maintenance records, fuel fill-ups, etc and it organizes it for you. I just didn't know if they were worth much. Seems hard to beat the tried and true log book...but it would be nice to be able to go online and review the status of all my cars in once spot. It's also nice to be able to review that stuff while I'm away from home (say at work) and want to plan out a few tasks for the weekend. Things like that.
Seems that there is probably some good stuff out there, but I can't really find much that looks very good. Anyone using anything like this? Any recommendations?

I have a logbook for each of my cars and write everything down. I have often thought about an online record keeping system but I'm afraid of losing everything in a computer meltdown/purge. I know you can back it up but I guess it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks
i have an excel workbook, with a separate sheet for each car, i write down the mileage & date when i do anything to the car. including to the work done. I think it works pretty well

Perhaps an excel sheet that I put on Google Docs or something would be the best bet. Then I could access and edit that from home, work, etc.
The only problem with any computer option is remembering to enter all the details after the fact. My log book tends to be a little detailed, with things like compression readings, vacuum readings, fluid levels, etc. I'd have to jot all that down, then take it to the computer to enter...seems like duplicate work.
But the log book won't remind me that a service is due. I think there are services out there that do. I guess there's no substitute for just paying attention to the cars...yet. But with 7 vehicles to take care of, it gets a little confusing.
