I'm still in the process of doing a body off chassis restoration. While the body is clear of the frame and engine I figured it was a good time to clean up and detail the engine compartment. One thing I had noticed when taking the engine out of the car, years ago, was that the heater core was loose inside the firewall, so it was on my list of things to investigate.

This weekend I removed the outer heater box. This revealed that someone had been in there before and it looks like the core may have been changed by going thru from the engine side. Bubba must have had trouble has the inner frame was distorted, the retaining clip on the right was bent over and the clip on the left side is missing. He also didn't have the foam seal around the core tubes.

I'd like to put the heater core back in properly. I'm pretty sure I can restore the clip on the right side to it's proper shape but, of course, I no longer have the clip for the left side. Does anyone out there know where I can purchase this clip?

As I cannot take a photo of the missing part, I borrowed images of it from photos on a previous thread..... Hopefully the owner of those pix will not mind my hijacking portions of his photos. Hopefully this link will work......

Do you have air conditioning? I have a dozen AC heater boxes, most will cores still in them, but no non-air boxes with cores. I can't remember right now if those clips are used on both heater cores, the AC only, or the non-air only.

I'm leaving for Spring Carlisle Wednesday morning, and won't be back till Sunday night. If I have the time before I leave, I'll look to see if any of my old cores, have the clips on them. I post Wednesday night, if I'm able to find any.

 

My car does not have AC..

I'm the other way around... I have never seen a AC heater box so I don't know if the clips are there for sure or not. However, the picture I found on the forum was said to be from a AC car so they just might be there.
