Default Front Suspension Mod

I have my front end removed, control arms, sway bar, springs and PS valve/cylinder and steering box.
Looks like one of the upper control arm shafts has a bad thread for the end bolt.
Was thinking of new shafts and the Moog K6104 is off set type.
How do they mount, is there a picture of how it is mounted?

Did you use an external or internal coil spring compressor? How difficult was it to remove the bushings from the a arms?

Thanks and good luck with the rebuild...

On my 78 with standard suspension, I freed up the ball joints. That is with the b-J nuts loose I used a rented ball joint puller and popped them loose. With a jack under the lower control arm I raised the control arm up and removed the ball joint nuts and removed the spindle. Then we lowered the jack until there was no spring load and the spring could be pulled out with not load on it. Lars mentioned in a suspension thread that the small block cars with standard spension do not need a spring compressor.
The control arm bushings are another story, I rented an upper control arm bushing puller/installer that worked very well. That puller would not work on the lower control arm; I found someone with a Shop Press and hope to pull the lower bushings out tonight.
There are several How To items on the Net, Zip has one and Corvette Action, do a search.

No experience with the offset kit but my experience was exactly the same with removing the front springs-no spring compressor to remove or install the springs-I have a gymkhanna suspension and replaced the front springs with 550's. I just lowered the control arm enough until all tension was removed and the spring literally feel out of the A arm and reversed to install the new springs. Same experience with the control arm bushings-used a removel tool for the uppers and put it new poly bushings but it would not work on the lowers. I burned out the old rubber bushings but had to go to a shop to have the new poly bushings pressed in. I absolutely love the poly upper and lower control arm bushings-no squeaks, going on 4 years now and they eliminate all unwanted control arm movement when driving-BIG improvement over the rubber IMHO, although many will disagree.

Before you took it apart did you have alot of shims on the upper control arms. According to Eckler's that would be the reason for putting in offset shafts and they would be installed in the direction that would decrease the number of shims. If you have this problem you might want to install a spreader bar while your in there.
