I'm installing a 700R4 tranny in my '71 and I understand that the '82 Corvette (which had the 700R4 installed by the factory) had an adapter block which bolted to the crossmember just behind the transmission...for the rear transmission mount. If someone has an AIM for 1982, I'd like to get the part number for that adapter block/mount so that I can order one. Thanks.

I don't have an adapter on my 82 from what I can see. The crossmember is probably different. I would just bolt some 3/8 plate in there if you can't find a crossmember or call Kiesler(spelling is wrong?) The good news is you can use your stock shifter. Just notch out the gate for low 1 and make sure the TV cable is adjusted perfectly or a little on the tight side(slightly late up shifts).

Yes Sir; The mount on the 82 bolts right up through the cross member. I don't know if you want to use the original 82 mount for this conversion. It is made to accommodate the power seat unit in all 82. That means your dual pipes will have to be installed down the riders side because of the approx. 4 inch drop in the drivers side floor board. My understanding is you can have your old cross member modified, to fit the 700R. I do not know this as a fact. Have a great one. Gene

Does anyone have photos of the 82 crossmember, including the end and center mounts? I keep hearing about there being a difference from early C-3's, but I haven't seen it. When I have seen an 82 for a look, it is too low to the ground to get an eye full.

The rear mount bolt hole location in the 700R4 is a different distance from the bell housing face, than it is on the TH-400. I had assumed that the crossmember on an '82 is in the same position [relative to the vehicle frame] as earlier years. But, that must not be the case if the tranny mount bolts go through the crossmember. I just know that the 700R4 "fits" the '82 fine, but the mount holes are in the wrong location for the crossmember on my '71. My plan was to make an adapter plate for changing the mount location on the existing crossmember (and moving the e-brake pulley mount). But, if the '82 already had such an adapter (GM part), I would use one of those. Apparently not, however...

Yes Sir; I used the cross member out of a 1980 in my 1982, in order to use a 350 turbo lock up converter in lieu of the 700R. I did have to cut & weld up several slots in the 80 cross member in order for it to fit the driver's side floor board. In the 1980 I used the cross member out of a 1975 with the exhaust run in the exhaust holes provided from the factory, in 1975, I did have to elongate the slots for the bolts which go into the bottom of the frame. The bolts which go in the side of the frame fit. I was able to use the original E-brake cable bracket W/roller on all cross members, with out changing. I still have my 82 cross member hanging on the wall. Until approx. 1989 they didn't make a good 700R. Someday I might change back to one. Also the shifting cable has a bracket which fits the pan holes on the 700R, it is different than the 350 pan. Same shifting cable. Different slot in shifter. Have a ball Gene
