Timing and engine temps
I have been advancing the timing on my new rebuild. When I had it at 8 (manf Specs) it was lsow of the line. I pushed it to 10 and then to 12 degrees. It runs fine at 12 and is much quicker with no ping or hard starting. What I have noticed though is it runs hotter when I get on it. I also noticed it running hotter at 75 mpg on the interstate. Should I move the timing back to lower engine temps and advance it only when I want quickness?

If you have vac adv you might be able to back it off so at highway rpm's it is not advancing it so much. I did the same thing you did and I noticed it is running about 5 to 10 degrees warmer at higher rpm's. I am going to look at backing off my vac adv.
