Default Dewitts Doesn't Fit

72 small block. I've spent the last three hours trying to install my Dewitts with dual SPAL. The fans don't clear the upper control arms and the top hose pipe is in the way of the driver's side upper bracket. I've sent an email to Dewitts tech department, but won't get an answer today. Anyone else ever have a similar issue?

The dual fans just fit between the upper control arms but occasionally we have to slide the fans to the left or right due to variances in front end mounting position, frames, and/or the amount of A-arm shims. We mount the fans in a position that fits 99% of the time but once it a while we have someone that has to re-position them. All you have to do is remove the six phillips head screw, (three on top and three on the bottom) slide the fan over and drive the self tapping screws back into the upper and lower hat channel.

The upper hose problem might have something to do with bracket or the belt that is used. The wrong mounting bracket or an oversized belt can change the position of things or the hose itself might be an aftermarket replacement. Our upper hose connection is exactly the same as a factory radiator so I'd look elsewhere for the problem here.

Yup I was one of the 1% that it hit the upper control arm. I called Tom and he explained the situation and I moved the fans over enough to clear and they have been running fine for a number of years now. I never even think about the cooling system now.

Tom, thanks for replying. There was a little more to it on my car than just sliding the fans over, but I've got the unit in. The bracket I was referring to is the bracket that holds the radiator in place. I had to take the Dremel to it to get it to clear the upper hose connection. I was part of the 1% that didn't get the "drop in" package, but it's in now so all is well.

I have Tom's SP020 model with a single Spal in my '72. I'm guessing yours is the wider application than mine to have 2 fans.

This DeWitt's unit has been a true asset and helps to build confidence on those long hauls, keeping cooling temps in spec.

My SP020 dropped right in and cabled up with no adjustments necessary.
If something had been off, I would have just fixed it too.

I had the same problem, I just unbolted the fans assembly and dropped the radiator alone and then slide in the fans assembly, it snapped in right away.

1% here. The driver side control arm bumped up against the spal fan shroud. Was not much, so I did not bother moving it to the side. Other than that fit great. All good now. I installed a LED so I could tell when the fans are engaged.
