Default Master Cylinder Bleed Procedure

I bought a new chrome master cylinder/power brake booster combo and the instructions that came with it say to clamp the m/c in a vice, put the included plastic tubes in each reservoir then connect the tubes to the m/c ports, fill with fluid and push the piston in and release until no more air bubbles come out. This is all well and good except I ain't gonna put my new chrome master cylinder in no vice !!! Soooo I have two questions. #1. Can you bleed the m/c installed on the car and #2 can you bleed the m/c with it connected to the power brake booster? If the answer is yes, is the bleed procedure the same? Thanks

The reason for bench bleeding is to get "ALL" of the air out of the master cylinder. Put some fiberboard or carpeting in your vise to protect the chrome. Make sure the master is level when in the vise and also push the piston all the way in to the bottom. If you don't get all the air out you'll have a soft pedal. You shouldn't try to bench bleed in the car because the master is tilted and air is trapped and can't be bled out no matter how much you try. Good luck!
