I recently (yesterday) pulled my tranny, exaust, drive shaft, bell housing, and clutch asm. What should I look for on the tranny (I havent been able to drive the car, so I have no idea on condition), but also what components I should paint, and with what. When I pulled the gas tank, I just degreased primered, and painted (with regular paint from pepboys).
The only one of those items I've messed with was the driveshaft. I painted it with Eastwood's "Detail Gray". It was also used on the rear end and half shafts. It's a great paint: beautiful, and extremelly easy to apply. Here's a pic, so you can see what it looks like: http://home.earthlink.net/~pplt/corv...rearsusp-1.jpg
For the gas tank, I used the POR-15 kit on the inside, and Eastwood's "Toner" paint on the outside.
Thanks, Neil! It's good to hear this from you, as I'm always drooling on the keyboard when I see the pics of your project!
Stuart: Just to clarify, none of the parts I mentioned came painted from the factory, so if you're after original looks, those should be left unpainted.
