70 thru 72 LT-1 Carb. insulator ?
One member stated that the heat sheild's were a dealer installed solution on an as needed basis for hard start conditions.
I have a restoration manual , that also states that all 70 thru 72 LT-1's used a insulator between the intake and carb. To me a insulator is not the heat sheild, An insolator sounds like a thick spacer of special material to prevent heat transfer. The sheild simply blocks heat radiation.
Can someone addres this, is there a seperate insulator that is about 1/4" thick that goes between the carb and intake that is not the thin metal sheild that proturdes well beyond the base of the carb.?
Thanks David

the carb will get nearly as hot as the rest of the motor.
Installing a Carb Isolator will drop the carb temp. nearly 100 degres.
without a Isolator and the motor at running temp.
you cannot hold your hand on the carb.
With an isolator, the carb will feel like an Ice chest.
you want the thick carb gasket to give you that thermal Isolation.
Huge differance !

I got some incorrect advice about this a few years back and I removed it. Once the engine was hot it would stall at idle, I assume because the carb was too hot.
