Anyone has any dealing with this California company. They are list a 450HP SBC for $2699. They usually do race motors, but this would be a great application for our cars. I know the engine needs other parts, but $2699 is a good deal if the engine is tight. Anyone got something on these guys? Anyone have better leads on motor shops. My motor has some gouges in the bores so I think it is pretty much not worth the rebuild> It is already .030 over.
just because its 30 over it isnt shot im doing a .060 over 350 right now for my next motor..but ive heard good and bad from speedomotive so look into them carefully first.
I, too, have heard good and bad from speed-o-motive. I, personally have one of their cheap 383 short blocks in my car and have about 5k miles on it. You can upgrade anything with them. They are about the cheapest I've seen for parts. I got a Comp Cams solid roller with lifters for about $650. I think at Summit the same kit was over $800.
Oh, yeah, if you go speed-o-motive, you're probably going to get a .060 over block unless you specify something else.
I've rag on S-O-M every chance I get so I'll spare everyone the details. Bottom line is I judge a company on customer service. Mistakes happen, sometimes no matter how hard you try something goes wrong. When that happens the company should treat the customer with respect even if they think it may be the customer's fault. I was treated very rude by their engine builders and am still upset about it. I spent a lot of money and thought I deserved better treatment. I still think they sent me a bad engine and treated me rude. I will continue to voice my displeasure every chance I get. Or least till I get my $3000 worth. I hope I have cost them more then they made on me.
Other than that I think there great!
I got a .060 stroker short block 388ci from them and had to put heli-coils in a number of the head bolt holes. Looked like they did not even clean them out at all. The decking job was not all that great either. Have not put the motor on the road as of yet to tell you any more on how it is holding up.

My block is a 3970010 or something like that, it has 010 and 020 on the back. I looked the numbers up one time and it stated it was a high hp motor from 71-74 or again.. something like that. Anyway, I thought it was BAD to punch a motor .060
The bad thing about boring to .060 is that it is about the limit of boring on a small block Chev. If you happen to have a matching numbers block that you want to keep, having to bore it .060 over means this about the last bore job it can get without sleeving.
