Borgenson install
72 borgenson install in progress. The return line from box to pump that was supplied in kit will need a sharp curve to be able to hook up to pump. Little concerned about load on the metal return tube that goes into pump. Any one do anything different or not. Dave
I faced the same problem as you when I fitted the Borgeson ( note: only ONE "n" ) box to my '74. As you know the "inlet" tube points downwards at about 5 o'clock and faces the control valve, cause that's where the original return line came from. The pump that Borgeson sells for this conversion has the return line facing up at about 10 o'clock when viewed from the rear.
There are two ways to fix this. One is to buy the Borgeson pump and the line will fit perfectly, but that's expensive if your pump is in good condition. The other is to buy just the reservoir part of the pump from one of several suppliers out there that has the return line facing upwards. I saw a few vendors at the SEMA show selling them from as little as $20 from memory.
What I did was pull the pump off and have a threaded fitting brazed into the filler neck at a local Enzed branch, cost about $15. Then you can screw in either a standard fitting to accept a hose and secure it with a hose clamp, or screw in a male AN fitting and have the corresponding female AN end sweged onto the return line. This is what I did and it works just fine.
Hope this helps.
