OK, yes, I know fluidampers are THE harmonic balancer of choice. But dang, those rascals are expensive. Does anybody know of a good, but affordable harmonic balancer that will fit the small-block 350 on our 72 Vette?
Is so, I'd like to hear what it is and where I can get one.
lyonsh,
Go to the magazine stand and look in any of the "stock car" racing mags and you will find an affordable balancer of the same diameter as yours.

I bought a nice, new elastomer balancer from ERW parts of Florida for my 388/400

Brand is Pioneer (well-known) made in Australia, came with crankshaft keys. I paid about $47 for 8" dia to fit 388/400 ... I think 350 version's a bit cheaper.

I went the cheapie route with a Proform for 60 bucks. I will never buy a cheapie again. After one summer, with a few 7 thousand RPM runs it spun the outer ring and I couldn't time it. I got a used 72 damper for free to put on for the summer, but the permanent one will be one without seperate rings. 2 times in 2 years I have spun the outer ring on stock style dampers. I think you would be better off spending a little more in the first place, and saving some money in the long run. Just my $.02
You can get a reconditioned balancer from the Damper Doctor in California. I think they're about $40. I got one - new rubber, clean, good seal surface. They say it's good to at least 5500rpm.
