Default Brown Wire - Baffling Wiring

Replacing all the wiring in my 1975 Coupe.

The wire with all the arrows pointing to it (see picture) is brown with a black connector. The old/existing harness and the new Lectric Limited harness both have this wire, the old harness had a stub of a stripped wire sticking out of it, but nothing else and no indication of where it should have been or why it was no longer in existence.

Can I be forgiven for posting without checking my wiring diagram?
Is this something necessary?
How do I go about repairing / replacing whatever it used to connect to?

Just because the wire is there does not mean it was in use. GM had a habit of using the same harness regardless of the cars options. That could be for a standard and something to do with the clutch. I don't know but the wiring diagram will tell you.

That wire goes to a radio capacitor that usually attaches to the steering column at the ignition switch. I believe it quiets the ACC circuit

My 71' wiring diagram show a brown 12 gauge wire with the same connector you show goes to the radio capacitor. Here's a picture of it in my 71'.

I think Duke has the photo to prove Roger's response!

I have the silver canister (radio capacitor) attached to the steering column with just a bit of wire coming out of it...I assumed it was the tach filter...

Looks like I'll be ordering a new radio capacitor prior to dash reassembly!

Thanks!

I believe that capacitor is for dampening the electrical spikes coming from the brake switch. So, if you aren't getting any 'popping' noises from the radio (when the brake pedal is applied), don't worry about replacing it. If you are thinking about "originality", that exact replacement capacitor is pretty expensive...and it really doesn't do that much. If you need it to quiet the audio, just find a suitable replacement at Radio Shack. If you want it 'original', dummy up the wire to a [non-functional] piece off another C3. Or, just leave the wire hangin'....

Originality isn't the goal. Running is.

The radio never worked for more than 2 to 5 minutes anyway, so I may just ignore that part for now, it looks like I can replace it with the dash in place anyhow.

We shall see!
