I had my dad snap some pictures with his really nice digital camera. I chose not to take pictures with my camera because some of you were complaining about the picture quality (you know who you are :) ).
Here's a picture of the 350 after we pulled it and the 454 in the background.
Here's a photo of my engine bay after I pulled the 350 out. The front crossmember had some major surface rust.
This was a two day job but I felt it was time well spent. I scraped all the grease and crud out of the engine bay and wiped it down with lacquer thinner. I then primed and painted it gloss black with lacquer paint.
Here's a picture of the big block right before I was getting ready to drop it in.
I attempted to drop the engine in by myself but the added weight of the bellhousing and clutch tipped the engine to the rear of the car making it almost impossible for one man to bolt it in. I called my buddy Chris Evanick and he said he'd be right out to help me. Chris Evanick has a really nice S10 with a 327 and a 5 speed Muncie.
Here is the current state of my car. The big block is bolted in and awaiting the correct clutch.
P.S. The oil pan cleared everything just fine. I have approximately 1 inch between the belly pan and my front suspension.
Steve:
No it wasn't hooked to the rocker arms :). I put a bolt in one of the exhaust bolt holes towards the back and one towards the front. I made sure the chain wasn't going to put any force on the rocker arms. I have to leave the hoist on because I haven't tightened my motor mounts yet, and there isn't anything to support the rear of the engine. Wednesday the clutch will be coming in and I can hook everything back up, bolt the tranny, torque the motor mounts down and remove the hoist.
This advice comes late Shane but if God forbid if you got to pull that thing out for some reason: beg, borrow or steal an engine lever. Ok, don't steal it but get one! I did it with and without one and much, much easier with one. Bet it would help even more when wrestling with that big boy you put in.
What can I say Bence..You Da Man........
Great to see some progress under the hood......Wish it was mine. I only got a 388ci but it will do fine, for now anyway..
The 671 is sitting in the living room corner waiting on its big block brother to come along..oh well, got to finish the other one first
congradulations so far
