Power steering cylinder line question

OK, all my books are packed up and I should have marked them, but just check me here to see if I'm correct,

The line with the larger of the two metal loops goes from the top fitting of the control valve to the lower fitting on the slave cylinder.

So the smaller metal loop line goes from the bottom fitting on the control valve to the top fitting on the slave cylinder?

Also, is that shield on the control valve needed, it doesn't seem to be protecting much.

Yes. Assuming your P/S components are oriented correctly, the hoses cross over each other when they are installed.

From the '77 AIM. Top hose on the cylinder goes to the bottom on the control valve. The shield/bracket helps locate the hoses at the valve. mike...

MDS3013 is correct. The bolted-on bracket has two bent ears that are to be used to locate the two cylinder lines. The hoses should be located to just touch the bracket.
