350-700R4 trans swap
I am doing a transmission swap on my 1978 corvette, and am wondering if anyone has any info on the transmission mount. It looks like I have to modify the old one, but not sure. Thanks . Gordon (arizgm2@yahoo.com) Green Valley, Az.

If you have the right length tailshaft housing, you just have to order up the right parts. The General put the 700R4 in the Corvette in '82. Just buy the parts for an '82 and you're done. You will also have to relocate the parking brake cable pulley on the crossmember. Just cut it off and reweld it where it clears. I don't remember exactly why it has to be relocated but it will be obvious. I think the cable hits the tailshaft. The biggest hassle is the 700R4 is wider at the back than the 350 and there is very little room for the exhaust where it goes through the crossmember. I cut the crossmember and relocated the opening for the exhaust to move it about 1 1/2" outboard. Makes routing the exhaust much easier.
