I am cleaning up some wiring (car is 1974) that is showing its age. One area is the A/C MAX blower fuse (30A) under the passenger side fender. The fuseholder has seen better days. I noticed that the power feeds from the MAX fan blower relay (on passenger side), through the engine wiring harness, and then to the fuseholder. That wire is 12-gauge orange. On the other side of the fuseholder is a 10-gauge red wire that connects to a fender junction box. The use of two different gauge wires on the same circuit seemed rather odd to me.
I checked the GM Service Manual and another wiring diagram and this is the correct setup. So the Q. is: why are there two different gauge wires for that MAX fan blower circuit? Surely the power flow would be equal on each side of the fuseholder.
