[QUOTE=Peeps9823;1577670697]Okay everyone. I'm a tad confused. Below is a pic of an electrical unit on the passenger side of my 74 LS4. It is right above the dip stick. I've located what I believe to be is the temp sending unit on the drivers side. But this electric unit, which seems to be wired incorrectly is puzzling me. The wire runs back into some form of conduit and behind the distributor and under the wiper motor...can anyone offer any insight, as to what switch this is, what it does, and how to correctly wire it.
thanks,
Peeps
Not positive, but i believe it is the temperature switch for the TCS (Transmission Control Spark) circuit. My wiring diagram shows 3 dark green wires connected to the switch. Two of them are basically a jumper between two of the leads on the TCS temperature switch and the third is another dark green wire that goes to yet another temp switch which is connected to the TCS solenoid.
That is correct. The TCS switch has two electrical contacts: one for a low temp switch that 'makes' when a minimum operating temperature level is achieved, and one for a high temp switch that 'breaks' connection if the temperature gets too high. The oil temp sender on the driver's side has only one contact.
Just to be clear, the oil pressure switch does not look like that. It it he large canister sending unit located on the drivers side right above the oil filter.
Although the wiring on that TCS switch is old and twisted, it appears to be the correct wiring and correctly routed. It doesn't need replacing, unless you want it to look newer.
