Did you drill a hole in the thermostat to bleed the air ?

MelWff has a good question... Usage of direct manifold vacuum to the vacuum advance on the distributor will result in cooler water temperatures than without vacuum advance.

The 4 1/2" spoiler made a big difference when driving at 40 to 60 mph. The temperture came down to 195 - 200 instead of 220. The ambiant temp was again about 82*. I will drain and flush the cleaner out of the radiator tomorrow and install water, anti freeze and put a bottle of Redline water wetter in. The outside temp is forcast to be in the mid 90"s next week so that will be the test. I don't remember the timing numbers, I think it was like 34degrees @ 2800 rpm with vacuum advance disconected and pluged, I think it was 14 degrees at idle with advance disconected and pluged. Iam not running with the advance connected at this time because the new engine liked the timing high and with sidepipes and no baffles we could not hear if it was pinging so we were afraid to hook up the advance until I got the baffles which I now have. We will play with the timing again soon and hook up the advance.

I am glad to hear about your success with cooling down the beast!
However, you should know that vacuum advance only comes into play when vacuum is high, I.E. when little or no load is on the engine. Vacuum advance won't make it ping when you hop on it. Might have issues if it's really advanced at cruise on the highway, but I don't think it pings or knocks, it bucks and surges. So hook that vacuum advance up and enjoy the benefits, like better gas mileage and cooler running temps. (Vacuum advance won't make your car any faster, tho.)
