Auto Trans Shifting into High @ 26mph +/-
Hey Guys. I have an 81 that I have been working on due to the prior owner not providing enough TLC. Anyway, the car shifts into high gear around 26-28 mph when driving in a 25 mph zone. Is this normal? I kind of think it's atypical but you guys are the expert. Thank you in advance for your opinion. I have changed the trans filter and put mobile 1 synthic in it. Lord, that stuff smells like it had been burnt before they bottled the stuff.

My 81 does the same thing. also the converter is locking up at that speed also so it makes it feel even wierder.
Does anyone know if installing a shift kit will make it hold the gears longer?

The weights and springs on you govenor will affect the high speed shifts and on a th350 the modulator has a small screw you can play with to change the shift timing. I forgot which way to turn it but you can't screw it up, it only changes the shift by 3-400 rpm
