I'm trying to fix the A/C in my '73 - my problem is that before I saved the car, "bubba" had been making all the repairs, apparently with just hot glue, duct tape and whatever extra parts where lying around.
Anybody got any pics on what an installed (and complete) system is supposed to look like on a '73?
You want to be sure about whether you really want to use the stock VIR assembly as opposed to the bulb-in-the-evaporator type (I forget the proper name for it). The stock VIR (Valve In Receiver) units don't work quite as well and some people convert them to the bulb type. I'm sure you can find out more about this by searching. I think there's kits out to accomplish the conversion.

That's another of my questions...
Does anybody have experience with these VIR eliminator kits?
If I were doing it over again I would try to upgrade to a newer system. Mine works ok but the VIR valves are known to be a problem. They are a real pain to remove as well because of there placement.
Here is some info from Toms "The 73 spot" page that may be helpfull http://www.73spot.com/bulletin_files/acfix.pdf

I converted my '73 (Factory Air) to '79 A/C. Just use a '79 Evaporator, new condensor (and SANDEN) compressor...No VIR stuff. Got the info right here in this forum...
