Default 69 corvette

Just wondering if any one knows how to keep the sounds and performance of the car but increase the mpg? I'm not conserned with all original but love the style and want a car to drive :D :D and still be able to afford the gas.

If you do a lot of interstate driving get a tranny with an overdrive be it a manual or automatic. That or lower you gear ratio (numerically ).

Thanks for the advice. Do you have any perticular tranny in mind? I've wanted a 69 vette for a LONG TIME(of course any time without a vette is TOO LONG) and my soon to be wife loves them to but I know its going to be all mine so to be nice I want to make it as economical as possible with out sacrificing any of the things that made me love with it.

Thanks for all the help I love the forum here

I would suggest a roller cam ($800+) and/or an overdrive transmission ($2000-3500).

A nice fuel injection setup will help the economy as well.

Bob,

My '69 Coupe with the base 300HP engine, 3.08 rear ran about 16 sec @ 85 in stock form according to Car Life Magazine tests. I did some basic mods to my engine (see signature) and knocked off about 2 seconds and added about 15 MPH in the 1/4 and now gets better mileage than I got when it was new. It gets 19-20 mpg on the highway. With a little more tuning we're looking for the 13s. That's not real quick like some of the guys on the forum, but it is respectable.

I would figure out your projected amount of driving for the next two years in miles and then do some math and figure the cost of gas at a semi-high price. Then figure your mpg based on that. Then guesstimate your best mpg if you do the changes suggested here. Subtract the second number from the first and see what the actual cost will be. The bottom line is .....is it worth spending $xxxx to save $xx? My prediction is that it isn't and for what you'll spend on trannys, cams etc. etc., you can buy a whole lot of fuel and have money left over just in case something breaks....which as we all know....it will....eventually.
