Default 81 Body Lift Question

Looking through other threads about lifting the body I have seen the rear bumper cover removed for some and left on for others. I would prefer to leave mine on, but haven't figured out what to disconnect back there. Can you remove the impact bar by disconnecting it from the rear of the energy absorbers?

There is a plate with studs which are on the other side of the impact bar coming through and attached to the energy absorbers. You can try taking the nuts off those studs (4 per side) and see if there is enough play to get the studs back out of the energy absorbers.

I removed the bumper when I did mine. Good luck with the lift!

Thanks for the reply Mike. I checked and there is not enough room behind the impact bar to remove the plate. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the bumper cover.

No need to remove the entire rear bumper cover for the lift. The picture below is what it looked like at body drop.

Thanks Mapman! With the 8 screws along each side removed, there is enough flex in the cover to get the impact bar out. I really didn't want to drop the gas tank to get to the screws on top to completely remove the cover. I appreciate the help.
