Default Front end kits

I know that alot if not all of you have had to have done something to your frontend. Have you gone polyurethane or regular rubber? Which do you prefer? I would like to eliminate the slack in my steering, and this will come first, then the steering box if that is loose. I've noticed that the all the rubber pieces look like originals, and are quite wore out. Which kits do you prefer?

I used polyurethane the second time. I think you will find the slack in your steering to be in the rag joint and or steering box.

has anyone had a base of comparison between rubber and polyurethane? What did you think? I'll be buying soon, and was curious about what you all thought.

Look for delrin bushings instead. They are hard and self lubricating so they don't squeek like poly bushings.

What is the life expectancy on those delrins? I was looking at the graphite impregnated polys, they aren't supposed to squeek. are those delrins harder than poly?

My rubber bushings lasted 23 years so I stayed with them. Got a nice front end kit from Muskegon Brake for about $165.00. Fit well and my steering is very firm now. Just a tip: most kits do not come with the tie-rod adjusting sleeves for some reason. So factor that into your cost projections.

I think I may go with rubber then, if nobody has anything to say about poly.

I just got the original type rubber bushing from zip for $159, I have read the others well ride a little rougher than the original type rubber bushings. Is the originals lasted this long...I won't be changing these again for a while anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I was surprised to not hear about poly.

I got the "super" complete poly kit from VB&P, plus their springs, and a rag joint kit from MAD. I always wondered what it was like to drive a NEW '81, and now I know! :D

Very happy with the poly. A little more road noise is transmitted into the cockpit and steering wheel, but I like the feel. They don't squeak. Graphite-impregnated, and installed with gobs of Tef-Cone lube (teflon/silicone).

The VB&P kit is totally complete - even comes with the little plastic caps for the zerk fittings! Those guys rock! :seeya

done them both many times and like the road feel of the poly. if your gonna replace frame mounts too then I would go original style. Solid mounts on engines and frame are pretty harsh after a while    :chevy :seeya
