Knock sensor. Used WinALDL to track knock counts. I'm not hearing any pinging at all, running 93 octane, stock motor, stock timing. What is that sensor picking up? Loose valves? Worn Cam? Looking for ideas, can y'all help out? The sensor is new, and operating, all wiring is intact and safe from header heat. This is the only code its throwing.
Is the light staying on all the time, or is it intermittant? If it is constantly ON, you either have some minor pre-ignition problem or the 'new' sensor you bought is 'bonkers'. If it is intermittant, run a can of SeaFoam through the engine and see if that fixes it. (could be some built up carbon deposits in the cylinder heads causing occasional pinging)
Ran the SeaFoam, that helped smooth things out some, but as I was doing that, I smelled something, other than the seafoam, lol.
Turns out the wire to the knock sensor had come un-tucked and was laying on one of the header tubes. Retucked it, and this time zip tied it to keep it from falling again. So far, no codes, but I'll be testing more later today.
See how great SeaFoam is!!!! You use it and it shows you the defective wire. How neat is that??? I'm pretty sure that wire was your problem. Glad you found it...and you have a nice, clean engine on the inside!
when my connector came off the knock sensor .it was to bad to repair and i could not find another one.the fix i was told was to go to a 1987 knock sensor .half the price of the 82 and it is less senstive for the roller cam.
