I will be starting the front suspension rebuild on my '78 L-48 in a couple of weeks. I have a lot of tooling and I feel like I'm pretty good to go, especially with all of the amazing advice and info I've been able to read on this forum!
I am located in Fort Wayne, IN and I am looking for any recommendations people might have for a good alignment shop here in town. I've contacted a few places that I have heard good things about (Preferred Auto SW, Fox & Fox)...but none of the people I've talked to own a classic car!
If anyone has any recommendations for or warnings against any shops in Fort Wayne, I would really appreciate the heads-up!
My father has a 70 and has always had his alignments done at Aspy Tire in Hoagland with no complaints. I'll be taking my 76 there as well when I'm ready for that step.
for the best job and the most expensive ,L&S out buy new haven they used to race corvettes and have one[493-6693]and you have fox and fox .they did mine a couple of months ago.both will do a good job.
Awesome - thanks for the heads-up! I was planning on Fox & Fox, but since I live so close (.5 miles) I stopped out and talked to a couple of guys over at Preferred Auto on Illinios Rd last night to see what they were all about. They told me that a few car clubs bring them their business, and they have a few techs that are totally comfortable on classics. The guy definitely seemed to know what he was talking about. He quoted me $45 for front only - $65 for four-wheel, shims extra - unless I bring my own (which I already bought a set). I got a good feeling there so I think I may give them a try since they're basically just around the corner from me. I'll let you know how it goes...probably be in about a month.
it sounds like you are just around the corner from me i am on hwy 14.preferred auto prices sound good .if they have done corvettes before ,then they should do a fine job.have heard other shops bitch about how hard they are.thats not were you want to go.others like to put there corvette tax on it.if you go to the dealer [summit] they are higher priced but give a 10 percent discount to corvette club members.the corvette club holds there meeting there each month.
