Default Ignition switch black connector Q

Recently the red wire going to the black connector on the ignition switch came out (no power to the IGN terminal and starter solenoid). There are 4 terminals oriented in a diamond on the switch and I want to make sure I put it back into the correct slot.

I have the orange+brown wire in the bottom, where does the red go?

What year Corvette? It makes a big difference. Is the ignition switch in the dash or on top of the steering column down under the dash?

.......and I believe it will matter if the column is a T&T or not.
"IF" your working on a 70 and your looking at the wire end view of the connector and your orange is at 12 oclock, the red would be at 3 oclock.
If the orange is at 6 , the red will be at 9.
(i have a 70 non t&t in the shop,I'll look at it after breakfast to make sure)

You are correct. It makes a big difference with respect to the ignition switch on 1969-82 steering columns if it is a standard (non-adjustable) column or a T&T. Each column has its own ignition switch mounted on top of the column jacket. The two switches operate in opposite directions. There is only one vehicle wiring harness so the harness and the connectors going to the switches have to be reversed (the vehicle wiring harness connectors have to be twisted 180 degrees when going from one type column to the other).

This is a wiring diagram for a 1969-82 Corvette from the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual. The ignition switch is on the right side of the picture in the middle. It shows a standard steering column switch with the correct wire colors coming from the vehicle harness as you look at the switch from the passenger side of the car.

Now if you have a T&T column you will have to print out the diagram and turn the page 180 degrees in order to read the wiring colors, terminals, (the paper will be upside down.)

Its a 70 with the T&T column.

I will print out that diagram and give it a try first chance I get.
