I want to mold in my flip up headlights and put newer brighter lights in the grill. I don't have any laws I have to follow and I know the lower the headlights the less I can see. Has anyone done this? Looking for advice on how to make this happen, I think it would look amazing.
When you say, mold in your flip up headlights, do you mean remove the metal and fill in the holes with glass?
If so, I was thinking about that too, but the problem is my car has a finished paint job and getting the color to match might be difficult without painting the entire nose.
If you don't drive at night that often, I say go for it.
Yeag take out the metal and glass it all in. I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to laying fiberglass so I am looking for any advice on that
Thats what I did with BiXenon HIDs. It wasn't bad installing them, I did weld some angle iron in to mount the lights and ballasts to before I glassed in the holes. Wiring was completed before hand as well. One of the nice things about these lights is that they draw less current than the stock 4 light setup so it taxes the original wiring if you're using it. I also bent up some metal brackets with my vice and hammer to mount the lights to before mounting to the angle iron that was welded in. To remove a light I have 6 nuts and 2 plugs that can be reached from below, takes about 5 minutes each if needed for some reason.
I taped aluminum foiled cardboard to the underside then filled with mat and cloth, the stock fiberglass is very thick so I takes some time to build up. Then I was able to remove the cardboard and peel the aluminum foil off from the bottom.
I'm sorry, I have nothing to add to this thread but I can't help myself. Smokedtires, what you've done to your vette is absolutely killer! It's a subtle mod that doesn't take away from the classic lines of our C3's but man what an awesome look! Just......wow!
Thanks Brando, not everyone would agree with my mods, but I like them
OH, I love it too, but like a buddy up north years ago, he did a similar height below the belt line headlight placement....I loved it, looked cool, but he was about my age and wanted to move, Maryland at that time did not have a annual inspection..for anything...except upon sale of the car.....then it was all stops OUT to try stopping the registration...encourage the latest and greatest....
the point being, even though I LOVE it, it will not meet DOT headlight height requirements, and IF any state ever bothers to check, OR some cop notices it at night...or in daytime for that matter....and measures light center to ground height, i'ts off over 6" in height....
which is why I went with the holes and minimized the size....
The problem as I see it is all that blank real estate between the leading edge of the hood and the front of the bumper. It needs something there. That's just my opinion though. Nice work!
