Default Heat sensor installation

I am installing a new heat sensor and have ran into a problem. The previous owner of the engine had a plug with a square fitting installed. Is there a special tool required to get this out. I fit a 3/8 breaker bar, but it twist inside and the 1/2 is too big. Looking for ideas or where to buy.

Thanks again...

I'm so close to having this car back in running condition I can taste it

Hi c,
Is it actually a pipe fitting?
Maybe the plumbing section of your local home store has the tool?
Regards,
Alan

It should be a 3/8" square drive just like what you tried. I assume it had a female square drive, correct?

Yes exactly what it is or so I thought. Not a lot of leverage available wit the 3/8" drive, I'll try it with a breaker bar

It sounds like the same plug used as a fill plug in a lot of rear ends. Its designed to take a 3/8" drive. Problem is they are easy to strip out, especially if there is a little dirt in them so the drive doesn't fully engage. I had the same problem with the fill plug on a truck I own. Solution was to grind down a bolt to fit in the square hole and weld it in place, then just use a regular wrench to back it out. Seems to work better if you back it out while its still hot.
