Highly polished caliper... normal?
I got a replacement caliper for the right rear of my 77.. It's polished to a mirror finish.. Is that normal?
Thanks

No. They normally have about the same texture as an engine block

No. But if it is a 'rebuilt' unit, you just happened to be on the receiving end of a "core" piece that had already been polished. If it's a new unit, it's probably a stock error on the part of the "stock guy" who picked it.

There used to be a company that did that. Could be one of their old cores.

One of the company's used to chrome plate their calipers, most other company's would not accept these chrome units as cores.

Looks like silver paint on top of a bare casting to me.

Appears to be a normal brake cal. that has been "chrome" painted. The chrome paint has a bit more shine then silver paint...

Looks like it was bead blasted then cadmium plated, to me.

It's certainly not chrome paing.. It's plated somehow... hmm do the castings look non OEM?
If so I may be partial to have them swap it to a stocker ..

I don't see any polishing there, just looks like they have been painted, with what who knows

It looks like a metallic surface...real metal, not metal paint (IMO). The hue is bluish in color which is why it leads me to believe it's cad plated. Pretty nice looking, if it is; and it should be more resistant to corrosion.

I't a plating of some sort.. not paint.. It's as tough as chrome... It look awesome and I wish all of my calipers were like it
