Default Axle Code LRW 070E

I think this is a 3:36, LR, made at the Warren plant, W, on the 070 day, but what year ?

I've been looking for my axle code on my '71 vert and haven't found it yet. I need some help decyphering these codes also.

Rear axle broadcast code "LR" was first used in 1971 but than also used thru 1975. It was in 1971 once Corvette included positraction as base equiped that simplified the rear axle ratio offerings. The closest that you may get to a date is the casting date of the carrier. Look behind the fill plug on the cover for the embossed cast date in the format J 17 7 with last digit the year (October 17, 1977). See if this date reconciles with the 70th day code. Of course, the axle could have been changed out.

Hi e275,
The codes are stamped on the bottom of the case's flange right in front of the rear's cover.
Here's a picture from my 71, looking up from below.
Regards,
Alan
