Getting my 383 build sheet in order and sent it along to my nephew who does a fair bit of oval racin' for his opinion. He said he asked 5 different engine builders and none use Total Seal Rings. He didn't know why.
Any of you guys have an insight on these rings before I buy them?
I had them in a 383. That engine didn't last long but I don't think it had anything to do with the rings. That engine performed unbelievably well until its untimely end.
I would guess that one reason that engine builders don't use them is the cost. Almost 3 times as much as most other ring sets.

Which Total seal rings as the make a veriaty of different rings are they 1/16X1/16X3/16?
Most guys buy a nice set of rings and then don't bother to have the block plate honed and then the hone job is done with a cheap honing machine and stones which in the does not make for good ring seal.
I've used them for a few engine builds, with good results, and personally like them. Heard they're not the greatest for ultra high rpm use, as something about the two part top ring chattering. I think it's a pretty novel design, and would use them again.
